What is DPS?
DPS is damage per second, and is the simplest indicator of how much damage a weapon does compared to other weapons. While DPS is an important attribute, there are many other factors which contribute to a weapon's effectiveness, like its accuracy or interceptability. For instance, beam weapons generally have a much lower DPS than projectile weapons of a similar range, but beams cannot be shot down by point defenses, balancing it out.
